About AC Athletic Department

As part of a well-rounded public education, ACHS provides educational athletic programs for grades 9-12. ACHS Athletic programs stress the importance of faith, character, and sportsmanship. When our students play football – or volleyball, or basketball – or run cross-country, their sport may be different, but their goal is the same. We will compete at a championship level and hold the highest character in sportsmanship.

Anderson County High School competes as a Class 4A school in Football, 3A in all other sports, and is a member of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association TSSAA.

From the field to the court to the green, ACHS offers students a wide variety of arenas to excel in athletics.

Message from the Principal, Ben Downs

As the proud principal of Anderson County High School, I am honored to welcome you to our school community. With over two decades in education, including 6 years in the classroom and 14 years in administrative roles, it has been a privilege to lead the Mavericks.

I am an alumnus of Tennessee Tech University and have dedicated my career to fostering an environment where students thrive both academically and athletically. One of the greatest joys of my life has been serving this incredible school and watching our students achieve great things.

I would like to take a moment to thank my wife, Carey Downs, and our two sons, Cooper and Josiah, for their unwavering support. Their encouragement has been instrumental in my journey as an educator and leader.

My 14 years of experience coaching baseball have deepened my appreciation for the hard work and dedication required to excel in athletics. I am immensely proud of our athletic programs here at Anderson County High School, which are supported by outstanding facilities, coaches, and athletes. The Mavericks truly stand out as some of the best in the State of Tennessee.

Our success would not be possible without the incredible support of our families and community partners. Your involvement is crucial to achieving our goals and maintaining the high standards we set for our athletics department and our school as a whole.

Thank you for being a part of the Maverick family. Together, we can continue to build on our legacy of excellence.

GO MAVS!

The goal was always to help our students create more value for their future, be the best players they could be and be more successful in life because they were part of the Anderson County Athletics Program”
